June 5 Update: Texas Massage Therapist Exam Now Available in Chinese
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) assessed applicant language requirements of those participating in the Texas Massage Therapist Examination and determined another language was needed in addition to English and Spanish.
Using input from the massage therapy industry and requests from translation services, the TDLR reported that simplified Chinese was the most requested language. So, the TDLR made simplified Chinese a language option for participants as of June 1, 2023.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) announced that massage therapist applicants now have a second licensing testing method from which they can choose. The exam options are:
- The Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx), the industry standard, administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB).
- The new Texas Massage Therapist Examination administered by TDLR vendor PSI. Applicants who take this exam will not have to take the Texas jurisprudence exam because the law and rules sections are incorporated as part of the exam.
Note: When considering future mobility and license portability, the MBLEx will satisfy exam requirements in other jurisdictions for those who move out of state. At this time, the Texas Massage Therapist Examination will not.
