Illinois Mandates Chaperones in Cases of Massage Misconduct

On August 2, Governor J. B. Pritzker signed into law Senate Bill 2660, amending massage therapy misconduct laws.

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has proposed sweeping tax reforms for the state, and massage therapy is at risk of being unfairly taxed because of it. Massage therapists will be required to start remitting sales tax for the first time since 1986 if this tax reform plan is passed as written. Reach out to the governor and your state senators and request massage therapy to be removed from Governor Pillen’s proposed list of tax exemption eliminations.

Missouri Increases Minimum Education Hours

On July 1, the Board of Therapeutic Massage issued an emergency rule to raise the state’s minimum massage education hours from 500 to 625. This change applies to all Missouri entry-level programs and apprenticeships/mentorships. The emergency rule is effective immediately and expires February 27, 2025.
